The government is set to extend the extraordinarily successful 5p carrier bag charge to smaller retailers. Currently only applicable to retailers with a staff of more than 250 people, the plan is to look at extending it to smaller shops and independent retailers. It would seem an obvious step given that there has been an 83% drop in their use since the charge was introduced in 2015.
