Recycled Shoes from Adidas Protecting the Oceans

Adidas Recycled Shoes

If you’ve ever wondered at the amount of rubbish that washes up on a beach, particularly in some of the most beautiful parts of the world, then this is a story that might make you feel optimistic about life.  Sportswear manufacturers Adidas have produced the first ever pair of recycled shoes using waste products for the ocean.

Run in conjunction with Parley for the Oceans, an environmental forum focussed on protecting the oceans and its ecosystem from destruction, Adidas developed a shoe made with uppers made entirely out of ocean waste – all yarns used in traditional manufacture were replaced with waste plastic and fishing nets.

Launched on World Oceans Day back in June, these beautiful looking shoes have all the environmental credentials anyone could want. Sadly they won’t be available to the public any time soon – the limited edition run of 50 were given away as prizes in a social media competition. Entrants were required to submit a video submitting  that demonstrated their commitment to stop using single-use plastic items.  A worthy prize for a worthy cause!
